In 2009, a Scottsdale Bible Church elder responded to God’s call to launch an evangelical congregation in Fountain Hills that would offer the distinguishing SBC values of transformational Bible teaching, engaging worship, authentic community, and service-based outreach. Since its inception, North Chapel Bible Church has gained respect in Fountain Hills as a friendly congregation involved in comprehensive compassion ministries, Bible studies for all ages, and effective evangelistic ministry and outreach.

Today, both North Chapel Bible and SBC enjoy great health and thriving ministry. Even in a season marked by unprecedented adversity and challenges, both congregations have experienced the Lord’s blessing of wise and godly pastoral and elder leadership; faithful participation and giving; and increased ministry involvement and service to our communities.

It is in this exceptional context that the leaders of both congregations have sensed God calling us to come together and merge under one name with stacked hands and united hearts. The senior pastors and elders of both churches unanimously voted to approve a merger that the North Chapel Bible members also voted to approve. With shared values, combined resources, and a focused effort, this opportunity will allow us to have an even more dynamic impact in Fountain Hills for the cause of Christ.

This merger will strengthen both our congregations, allowing us to offer engaging worship and transformational Bible teaching to up to 1,000 people each weekend using high-quality technology. At SBC Fountain Hills, we will offer excellent age-appropriate ministry, from Discovery Kids (newborn-4th grade) to YTH (grades 5-12), a young adult program and ministries for singles, men, women, and 55+ adults. Together, we will continue to be locally active in serving our neighbors while sharing the love and message of Jesus with compassion and grace. We are excited to offer a spiritual home in the Fountain Hills community that has a Spirit-led vision to reach our neighbors who don’t yet know Jesus.

On January 1, North Chapel Bible Church joined SBC’s Shea, Cactus and North Ridge campuses as part of the SBC family. While renovations of the SBC Fountain Hills facility are in process, North Chapel Bible’s programming will proceed largely unchanged and the congregation will continue to meet at their current location. All existing relationships with North Chapel Bible’s supported missionaries and organizations will be carried forward into the SBC Outreach budget and program for at least two years.

When the new campus opens, teaching will be broadcast from the Shea Worship Center most weekends and the campus will offer the same key ministries as other SBC campuses while operating under the singular SBC budget and governance. Opening is currently planned for Fall 2021.

Jamie Rasmussen will be the Senior Pastor and his messages will be broadcast from the Shea Campus most Sundays. Bobby Brewer will co-pastor the Fountain Hills campus with another campus pastor, and their responsibilities will be assigned according to giftedness, skill sets, and strengths to ensure the mission and vision of the church are carried out. Transitioning of other staff into the SBC family will be handled with intentionality and honor, giving each one opportunity to discuss and explore how their gifts can be applied. Generous assistance will be given to those who need to transition away.

The creation of SBC Fountain Hills represented by the merger includes the $4.2 million investment in a newly purchased facility in Fountain Hills that will offer the community an experience similar to that found at other SBC campuses. The beautiful worship facility will seat 350-380 people per service.

The story of North Chapel Bible will continue through a new expression, strengthening the current congregation and building on its strong legacy of mission and service. In addition, people who currently call SBC home and live in Fountain Hills will have an option to attend an SBC location nearby and easily invite their neighbors. Our congregations will be better together with unstoppable potential to impact lives in Fountain Hills and beyond for Jesus Christ.
