Alpha – Spring 2023

Shea: Thursdays, February 2–April 20 | 6:45 – 8:30pm | A7
Cactus: Thursdays, February 2–April 20 | 6:45 – 8:30pm | 5-8 Room
(No Classes March 2)

We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to ask life’s big questions:

What is my purpose?
Who is Jesus and why does He matter?
Why is there suffering?

Alpha is a series of conversations that explore life, spirituality and faith in a fun, nonjudgmental, and open environment. Each session includes dinner, a short video, and a discussion where you can talk through your thoughts and questions with a small group of people much like you.

Is Alpha for me?
The best way to know is to just try it! Alpha was designed for anyone who may be skeptical or curious and for those with major doubts around faith. If you want to talk about the real issues of life with new friends, this might be for you.

How does it work?
We will meet together every Thursday evening. We eat dinner together each week then watch a short film. The best part is the small group discussion where we talk about the night’s topic and create a safe place to bring up any questions without fear. Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation. You can talk or just listen, totally up to you. It’s a fun evening where no question is too simple or off-limits, and you can expect to meet and make new friends. Join us and see if Alpha is for you!

What if I try it and don’t like it?
If at any time you decide Alpha isn’t for you, that’s no problem. There’s no pressure, no follow up..

We will meet on the SBC Shea campus, 7601 E. Shea Blvd, Scottsdale or the SBC Cactus campus, 2501 E Cactus Rd, Phoenix. We invite you to gather with others who have similar questions as yours. Invite your neighbors, family and friends to join you with their own questions or objections, we invite all to Alpha no matter what their background is.

Alpha is offered each fall and spring at SBC. To be notified of upcoming dates, email us at groups@scottsdalebible.com.

Endorsement from SBC Pastor Rustin Rossello:

“Alpha provides an opportunity for people to ask questions (or just listen) regarding topics about life, spirituality, and faith in a safe, supportive, fun, nonjudgmental environment. If you’re new to faith, pondering about spiritual things, or looking for a place to invite a friend with questions, I highly recommend checking out Alpha.” – Pastor Rustin

Testimonies from previous SBC Alpha participants:

“My husband and I were going through marital problems and started to attend SBC in hopes of finding some answers. One Sunday morning a friend told us, ‘There’s a new class starting soon called Alpha and I think you guys would love it.’ We said ok and signed up having no idea what we were getting into! My experience at Alpha was more than I could have ever imagined. It answered so many questions about life, faith, God and Jesus. Our small group was a place where we could ask questions and have open, honest and raw discussions. I did not once feel ashamed or judged. We laughed together, we cried together and we became friends. I considered myself a Christian my whole life, but what I learned through Alpha was that I had never really had a relationship with Jesus. Alpha was my gateway into growing my faith in God through Jesus our Savior. It has led me to amazing people, involvement in the church, and taught me more about myself than I realized. It saved our marriage and most importantly, it helped me find purpose through a new relationship with Jesus. I am forever grateful for the Alpha team!” – Catie

“A neighbor asked if I would like to attend an Alpha meeting. I have always considered myself a Christian, but I have also had questions and doubts. I went. I asked my questions and expressed my doubts, not expecting them to be able to answer them to my satisfaction. But they did, to my surprise. I also half expected them to try to push religion on me, but they did not. They allowed me to discover and accept Jesus Christ in my own way and at my own pace. It all made sense! I have come a long way because of Alpha and the fine people at Scottsdale Bible Church. But my journey is just beginning, and I still have a distance to go, and with their fine help, I know that I will make it.” – Larry

“I had heard about Jesus my entire life but along the way decided I didn’t believe in Him. When I learned about Alpha, I decided to give it a try because I had wondered about Jesus over the years and thought–what if I’m wrong about Him? Alpha presented information that helped me understand who He was and is in my life, and the transformation that is taking place within me is better than I could have ever imagined.” – Michelle

“I came to Alpha after stumbling across the event description on the SBC website. A few of my family members are Christians and I was interested in learning more about this thing they were so passionate about, but I didn’t really know where to begin. I attended services at a few different churches and read some passages in the Bible, but it seemed like everyone was speaking a foreign language! I was hoping for a bit of a ‘Christianity 101’ and when I read Alpha’s description (“Alpha was designed for anyone who may be skeptical or curious and for those with major doubts around faith. If you want to talk about the real issues of life with new friends…”) I knew I wanted to give it a try! Alpha turned out to be a wonderfully non-judgmental space where no question was too basic and people were curious and open to discussing life’s big questions. The content was well presented and discussions were lively. Alpha was a wonderful launching point for me to stop and examine my beliefs and grow in my faith.” – Danielle

“Alpha has helped me immensely. I was seeking answers to spiritual questions and I found Alpha. There is nothing about Alpha to be fearful of. Alpha’s approach is very light and airy, any question is a good question, and with absolutely no judgment. I loved how safe I felt! Alpha has shown me how I can seek my answers from the Holy Spirit through Christ by reading the Bible, praying, and creating a relationship with the Trinity. I highly recommend Alpha to anyone, whether you have a religious background or are on a spiritual journey or not.” – KC
