They have served in several volunteer roles, including leadership in the Faithful Families enrichment class, marriage ministry and facilitating home fellowships. Dick’s professional career and faith journey took him and Tedi to several churches across the US and eventually to Tokyo, Japan. Upon moving back to the US, they joined a Bible-based church in Chagrin Falls, OH, where Dick found the joy of salvation and was baptized in 1996. His new-found faith matured in a men’s small group in Lake Forest, IL, where he helped start a Men’s Ministry and lead a building expansion team. After moving to downtown Chicago, he served with Renew Chicago to help start a Christian youth employment training program in Chicago’s distressed West Side. Dick and Tedi then moved to Scottsdale and became SBC members in 2017. Dick currently leads a team supporting SBC Staff Development and is a member of the Finance Council. You May Be Wondering (FAQs)

A: Yes, it's important that you do, unless you have strong objections to an individual. Our hope is that you have confidence in your church’s leadership and their selection of qualified candidates. If you have concerns or questions, please contact us.

A: Generally, SBC takes note of people who are actively engaged in the church with their time, talent and treasure and have shown themselves to be wise leaders. It is from that pool of people that we find leaders who are recommended as Elder candidates.

A: Elders serve four-year terms and must be off the Elder Board for at least one year before they can be elevated to the role again.

A: Being an Elder at SBC is a tall order and is not for the faint of heart! Elders generally meet monthly as a full Board. Each member also sits on at least one of our board committees (Risk, Finance, Admin, Nominating, etc.) which generally meet once per month as well. The Elders also meet once a month for 'Soul Care,' a meeting where they tend to the spiritual needs of one another. In addition to this, Elders are expected to be active in the life of the church.

A: Scott Anderson, our Executive Pastor, would be happy to discuss this vote or anything pertaining to SBC with you. His email is sanderson@scottsdalebible.com.

A: You can send your recommendation to elders@scottsdalebible.com.  Each name submitted will be reviewed and included in the process.
