Recount God’s Faithfulness

I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart, I will recount all of your wonderful deeds. –Psalm 9:1

As I sit in my makeshift home office, overwhelmed by the reality that five of my six kids living with us will not be going back to school anytime soon, with their eyes on mom and dad to keep them entertained, I need this Psalm.

I know I need to thank God with my whole heart, but in day 24 of a quarantine my heart needs a jumpstart to be thankful. David reminds me that I just need to take a deep breath and look back on God’s past faithfulness. I, like David, have a chance to “recount all” the wonderful deeds He has done in my life.

I remember my Good Father’s faithfulness when I was a young father, husband and pastor. I remember a time when He showed up and calmed my very anxious spirit. I recount a time when I was at my lowest and the Lord was all I had to turn to, and without hesitation—without an ounce of shame or guilt—He scooped me up in His arms and reminded me that I am His son and He is for me.

As you spend time recounting your own wonderful deeds of God, share them. Post them online, Zoom-call your friends, blog about it, use whatever platform you feel most comfortable with and recount the deeds of your Good Father. He knows, as we all do, that this world needs to be reminded Who is in charge and be encouraged that He’s got us all and He is good.
