Even If

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. –Psalm 46:1-3

In Psalm 46, we find a man who makes a bold declaration: “We will not fear.” He goes on to say that even if the earth looks like it is falling apart, even if the mountains shake and tumble into the depths of the sea, even if the waters of the ocean violently roar—“We will not fear.” Well, why not? Those events are enough to frighten even the most courageous people. And we discover the reason in verse one: “We will not fear” because “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble”.

So, my friends, even if we must stay in our homes for a little bit—we will not fear. Even if schools shut down—we will not fear. No matter the “even if,” we have a God who we can run to when we get scared. We have a God who transforms our fear into faith. We have a God who is an “ever-present help in trouble.”
