Being at Home

Lord, through all the generations, You have been our home. (Psalm 90:1)

We’ve spent a lot more time in our homes lately. Although we’ve felt confined, there’s something special about “home.” It’s a place where you can be yourself, wear whatever you want, feel comfortable and safe, and sit in your favorite chair. Home is familiar. It offers a place to escape the noisy world.

As believers in Jesus, God is our home. He invites us to curl up on the couch, rest from our busyness, be fed from His table, and be accepted and loved for who we are. He wants us to live and move and have our being in Him (Acts 17:28). He doesn’t want to be a hotel we visit on vacation or a church building we visit weekly, or even a chair we visit once a day to read His Word. He wants to be the home we live in 24/7. It’s a moment-by-moment choice.

As we move back into our busy lives, I want to remember the intimacy and peace I’ve found in being at home in the eternal realm with my God. I’m thankful He puts up with me when I forget and wander off, and that He always welcomes me home with open arms.
