Our Story

God has grown SBC from a humble beginning of 13 people in 1962, to more than 8,500 meeting weekly in four worship services on our Shea campus in the heart of Scottsdale (two in the Worship Center and two in Grace Chapel), three services at our Cactus campus in Phoenix, and two Sunday services at both our North Ridge and Fountain Hills campuses. As God leads, we continue to press forward to take the message of Jesus into communities throughout the Valley.

We have a vision to create a community of Christ-followers marked by unwavering faith and unconditional love. On each of our campuses, SBC is committed to our values of transformational Bible teaching, engaging worship, authentic community, and service-based outreach—all expressed through the context of grace.

God has richly blessed SBC with a legacy of missions and entrepreneurial ministries. Many of these have been birthed out of our church and offer care in Christ’s name for the poor, the marginalized, and the under-served. Others encourage people relocating to the Valley, business professionals, and families. SBC supports more than 50 global missionaries and two schools and nearly 1,000 children in Tanzania. We also send hundreds of people on short-term teams each year to serve and share the gospel around the world.

God has shown our church tremendous favor by providing senior pastors throughout our history who are godly men and have led with hearts of integrity and submission to God’s Spirit. Partnering with many Elders through the years, they have followed God’s leadership to guide the congregation to Get God by knowing and worshipping Him, to Get Real in authentic community with others, and to Get Out There to serve others in the name of Jesus. We have seen God miraculously bless these efforts, and it is with great joy that we move into the future to experience the great works He has prepared for us.
