Waiting

Together, we are waiting. We are wondering what will change next and when we will be able to resume in-person gatherings. In a quiet moment before the Lord I felt led to see what He had to say about waiting, and His word is full of direction for this uncertain time:

The Lord commands us to wait throughout Scripture. Sometimes the command comes twice in one sentence (Ps. 27:14).

Several verses guide us to where our focus should be: Be strong and let your heart take courage (Ps. 27:14). In His word and our hearts, we hope (Ps. 130:5-6)! We are to stay focused on where He has us personally, and not on where He has others (Ps. 37:7).

Other verses promise results for waiting: He will renew our strength; we will run and not be weary and walk and not faint (Is 40:31).

Some verses show us His response to our waiting for Him: He waits to be gracious to us and show mercy to us (Is. 30:18). God hears us (Micah 7:7). He is our help and shield, and our protector. We set our hearts to hope in Him (Ps. 33:20-22).

Therefore, do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble (Mt. 6:34). I don’t know where your heart is in this time of waiting, but I do know the Lord is calling you to trust Him and turn to His word for your wisdom, comfort, and peace. When you are anxious, pull out your Bible, do a word study, and pray that He will guide you into His truth! You can trust Him in the waiting!
