Train-Ride Reflections

Recently I left my flat anxious and apprehensive to get on the train and enter the world of menacing germs. On the train, the woman across from me looked upset, even though we were at least 10 feet apart. I was saddened, overwhelmed by the mistrust and fear that we now hold in our minds and convey in our eyes.

But God spoke to me as I looked outside at His beautiful creation. We passed a point where the hills open to the sea, and I was overtaken by joy at the sight! A powerful sea, unmoved by the anxiety in my human heart…birds flying:

Mackenzie, I take care of these birds. I clothe them and they never worry if I will care for them. They find and eat food that I provide for them. I love them and they live bold and fulfilled lives because they are made by Me, and cared for by their gentle, loving, and attentive Creator.

I looked back at my neighbor covered with her scarf, not saddened by this precaution taken because of a horrible virus. I was filled with love for her. Jesus replaced my fear with His other-focused love. He holds the world in His hands, and I am one of the created, spectacular, and loved things. How glad I am to be in God’s world and found in His life through Jesus!
