The Joy of Salvation

Restore to me the joy of your salvation and uphold me with a willing spirit. –Psalm 51:12

King David uttered these words during his confession to the Lord for his sins! It makes sense when you’re distant from the Lord because of sin or wandering to want to recall the experience of joy when your relationship with the Lord was new. But could it be that a prayer for the restoration of the joy our salvation can be made daily, regardless of sin or wandering?

In discipling a young man who recently “Got God” for the first time, I am captured by his insatiable hunger for more of God. He can’t read enough Scripture or discuss the words of Jesus enough with everyone he meets. I find myself getting excited each time we meet to chat about his faith. I am reminded that Getting God is not simply a one-time event, or one we turn to when we have sinned, but a lifelong adventure, regardless of our distance from the Lord. Getting God promises to restore our joy in Him!
