Serve Each Other

Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from His love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus… (Philippians 2:1-5)

Bold words for a bold time. My high school lacrosse coach said something to my team that I will never forget. “The measure of a man is not when things are going well and times are good. No, the measure of a man is when the chips are stacked against him and life seems bleak. Who is he then?”

These are certainly difficult times financially for many, physically for others, emotionally for us all, and spiritually for the Church. The chips are stacked against us as a country and community, but we have something on our side the world does not, or better stated—Someone the world does not—Jesus. It is only in Christ that we can truly dig deep and put other’s needs before our own.

Christian, who do you need to, in humility, value above yourself today? Who can you sacrifice for and love with the love of Christ? It is our highest calling to love others! Let us do so with joy and thanksgiving.
