Keep Yourself in the Love of God

If and when are words we use frequently during this time of uncertainty. “If the number of cases steadily decreases, we will be able to do thus and so.” “When we are able to re-open, we can go back to such and such.” If and when denote doubt, ambiguity, and insecurity. But we yearn for certainty, predictability, and security.

How should we Christ-followers continue on in the midst of the opaqueness brought on by pandemic? Rather than waiting for things to “go back to the way they were,” let us press on, renewing and internalizing what we know to be certain and secure:

But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life.–Jude 20-21

And remember how the One you follow will preserve you through your temporal circumstances to the end, and to your future glory:

Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.–Jude 24-25 ESV
