His Possession

During pandemics and undiscovered vaccines and treatments, anxious thoughts and behaviors can take hold, and we may forget who we are. Others have said that the Christian life may not necessarily place emphasis on learning new things about God and ourselves (although that is important), but rather the emphasis of the Christian life may be on reminding each other of the truths we have already learned, and rightly applying those truths. Such a reminder occurs in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 where Paul says,

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body. NASB

Christians are both the possession of God and possessed by the Holy Spirit. We belong to our King and are His royal subjects. This orients Christians to the comforting reality that we are His, and our full devotion is to Him. In fervent love for His possessions, He will comfort and convict us and prompt us to grow in the likeness of His Son. As we trust in this truth and obey Him, we will bring glory to Him through these bodies. Let pandemics, unpredictability, and undiscovered treatments prompt you to remember who you are, who you belong to, and what your purpose is: to glorify God. As Jude says: To those who are the called, beloved in God the Father, and kept for Jesus Christ: May mercy and peace and love be multiplied to you. Jude 1b-2 NASB
