Be an Image Bearer

As we meditate on the truth of being made in God’s image, one must ask why we create images. Why take a photo or make a depiction of any kind? We seek to display value in an object or event that it is worthy of praise. By creating mankind in His own image, God has declared two inalienable truths over every human being:

  1. Mankind has incredible value and worth because God has declared that we bear His image, representing, in part, His infinite goodness and beauty.
  2. All humans were created to bring glory, honor, and praise to the One whose image we reflect.

As we seek to understand and rightly bear His image, remember who perfectly bears that image for us. Col. 1:15: He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. Mark 10:45: “…for even the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”

Be an image bearer today; seek to look and live like Christ. Thankfully, the burden to represent God perfectly has already been lifted for those who are children of God. It was through Jesus that God “…made Him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.” (2 Corinthians 5:21). Walk today as one who is redeemed and righteous, knowing that you bear an image greater than yourself, the image of the invisible God.
