A Time of Reset

God not only orders our steps . . . He orders our stops. – George Mueller

In speaking on the phone today with someone from church, we agreed that life finds us stopping when we aren’t ready to. I admit I don’t plan to stop very often. I’m an extrovert who believes being busy is better.

After our talk, the Lord impressed on me not to dial the next number on my list, but pause for a while. Now that He has me at home, sitting in this lovely place and with forced quiet, I listened. In the beautiful shade of our back yard, I closed my eyes and slowly breathed in the smell of orange blossoms, felt the wind on my face, and noticed the hum of a hummingbird at the feeder above me. I soaked in such joy because I stopped and absorbed the sweetness with my Father. I agreed with Him, out loud, that I miss this way too often for the trade-off of a busier life.

A favorite verse of mine is Eccles. 5:20 “For he [she] will not much remember the days of his life because God keeps him occupied with joy in his heart.” This wonderful time of reset is providing the serenity, if we will choose it, to stop and enjoy what our Father is doing. Tomorrow, I will make more calls to check on our people, but between them I will pause to take in God’s goodness.
