A Call to Unity

In the midst of everything that is swirling around right now in the world, in our homes and in our culture, there seems to be a growing distance in our unity. I do not make that assertion as a spectator, but as a self-aware contributor. There are so many sides to so many issues and as a result, there is division all around us, and even disunity that can be found within my own heart.

More than ever we need a call back to unity. More than ever I know that I need a call back to unity. Our desires must shift from wanting people to understand our sides and our perspectives and instead be redirected towards our eternal perspective and the greater story that unifies us all as believers. Our desire for unity must increase. A reminder must be reclaimed of the unity that we have in Christ Jesus to lead our hearts and minds back to why we are here, whose we are and the call we have on our lives to bring a light into the darkness.

For our God is a God who favors restoration, offers a hope in the chaos, and brings a peace that transcends our hearts from the smaller story back to the greater one.

Our God lives in perfect unity with the Holy Spirit and with His Son, Jesus. And He desires for us to experience a shared sense of wholeness and community as we commune with Him and interact with one another.

Part of operating as the Church is being allies of one another and the work God is uniquely doing within each of us, but also the greater works He is calling us all to engage in together, alongside one another.

In 1 Corinthians 1:10, the Apostle Paul writes, “I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment.”

So today, seek to discover where there might be disunity in your hearts and minds; how you might be participating in the disunity swirling around in our culture right now. And then seek to see if there is a call here for you back to unity.  Is a resetting of your gaze, your heart and your mind on Christ Jesus and His plans and purposes needed, so that you can join the call back to unity?  Is it time to shift what you are holding and fighting to be known in this world, so you can free your hands and hearts back to grabbing ahold of the greater story and call on our lives?

Let the disunity draw you back home and back to one another. For there is a world in need of the light of Christ. But the light is the brightest when we stand together in Him, for Him, through Him and for all to see Him. For there is nothing more important than Him and for us to be unified in Him and to then share the fullness of Him to a world in need of a hope greater that what they can see swirling around them. And then let us see how His light can breathe hope into the world around us and draw us all back to a place of love towards one another.
