The elders whose terms end June 30 are Dan Scruggs and Jim York. The following men have been voted on by our current Elder Board to serve the next term, which begins July 1. The members of our congregation will vote to affirm at the Annual Meeting May 31.

Jeff Goble

Jeff Goble came to faith in Christ at the age of nine while his family was living in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. Jeff earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Arizona State University, and is currently President of a medical device manufacturing company—manufacturing specialty infusion therapy products for the U.S. and international markets.

While in college, Jeff was on the Scottsdale Bible High School and Junior High staff; he and his wife were class leaders of the Genesis II enrichment class, served on all of Scottsdale Bible’s capital campaigns over the past fifteen years—taking on the chairmanship of both the Joshua Challenge and Enlarge our Hearts projects, member of the first Timothy Ministry class, served three times as an elder, and has served on the Executive Pastor and Worship Pastor search committees over the last year .
Jeff has attended Scottsdale Bible Church since 1972. He is married to Tracy and they have two children. Jeff and his family are avid scuba divers and love to travel.

Matt Everroad

Matt Everroad came to faith in Christ in college. Matt earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Management Information Systems from the University of Arizona. He is currently the managing director of Rauch, Hermanson & Everroad, Ltd., a certified public accounting firm.

Currently, Matt serves as a board member of the Kuns Foundation, an organization that grants missionary scholarships to local seminaries and Make A Difference, a Christian urban outreach ministry that focuses on discipleship and mentoring through sports. Matt has served as part of the leadership team in past for the Faithful Families enrichment class. His current passion is evident by his participation and leadership in a family-based home fellowship and a family-oriented service small group. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, running and an occasional hike. Matt has attended Scottsdale Bible Church since 1994. He is married to Janna and they have three children.

Tim Kimmel

Tim Kimmel accepted Christ as a child and rededicated his life to Christ at the age of 16. Tim earned a Bachelor of Arts, Bryan College; Masters of Theology, Dallas Theological Seminary; Doctor of Ministry, Phoenix Seminary. He is currently Executive Director of Family Matters—a national ministry committed to seeing families transformed through the power of God’s grace into instruments of reformation and restoration.

Tim began attending Scottsdale Bible in 1976 and served as our Youth Pastor for four years and one term on our elder board. He taught Faithful Families for the past 12 years and will lend his expertise in the grace-based strategy for families to our Children and Student Departments as well as the equipping of parents.

Tim is married to Darcy and they have two daughters and two sons. Tim is a seasoned fisherman and enjoys all outdoor sports, including horseback riding, hunting, camping and branding cattle.

Our elders are godly men who serve diligently without any remuneration. Please pray that God will continue to give them great wisdom and stamina for the task.

The Ellder Board of Scottsdale Bible Church is responsible for the governance and oversight of the affairs of our church. Working in conjunction with the pastors, they are responsible to ensure that the mission and ministries of Scottsdale Bible are consistent with biblical directives and principles. They strive to maintain a distinction between governance and management, delegating management of the day-to-day affairs to the pastors, staff and lay leaders. The Elder Board approves the annual budget and supervises the raising, receiving and disbursement of funds to support the ministries of Scottsdale Bible.

Our bylaws define the process and qualifications necessary to serve as an elder. Each spring an Elder Nominating Committee is voted on by our members. In turn, they prayerfully pore through names—many of whom are recommended by you. Normally, they need to find two or three men who will take the place of those elders whose term is ending. The Nominating Committee interviews each man selected for consideration—when the interviews have concluded, they submit their recommendations to the Elder Board. Each candidate needs at least a 75 percent vote from the sitting Elder Board in order to be presented to the congregation for affirmation.

Only men who are members of Scottsdale Bible, who are of high Christian character and integrity, who maintain an exemplary reputation, who demonstrate leadership in the ministry of the church and who possess the qualifications in Titus 1:6–9 and I Timothy 3:1–7 may be elected as elders. An elder must be above reproach, with his life lived in such a way that it is obvious to those around that he lives out the integrity of his faith. He is also of good reputation, both outside and inside the church. These can be seen in the following 12 qualities of his life:

The husband of one wife—a one-woman man who is emotionally and sexually faithful to his wife. He exhibits a life of sexual purity and free from the entanglement of lust and pornography.

Temperate—“wine-less” in the sense of being clear-headed and wise in decisions.

Prudent—well-disciplined in thought, not rash but cautious and reflective in decisions.

Respectable—well-disciplined in life, not out of control but lives out well-ordered priorities.

Hospitable—caring of others.

Able to teach—knows the Scriptures and does not rely on opinions of others.

Not addicted to wine—understands the fear of drunkenness and does not engage in excessive drinking.

Not pugnacious, but gentle—does not react to difficulty with anger and attack.

Uncontentious—peaceful and not quarrelsome.

Free from the love of money—understands stewardship and money to him is a gift from God and a means to serve God.

Manages his own household well—knows how to care for his wife and children with loving headship.

Not a new convert—an observed spiritual maturity that reflects the humility of Jesus.
