Newcomers

Are you new to the area? We have a Bible study for you!

Whether your move was a welcome opportunity or a dreaded event, you face tremendous change and the daunting task of starting over in a new place. Studies reveal that moving is among the top stressors, especially among women. Attending the Moving On After Moving In class is the best way to make this time of transition go more smoothly.

The Moving On After Moving In class will…

Encourage you
It’s the place to be when you are new in town! Our Christ-centered study will help you in the process of letting go, starting over, and moving ahead with your life after a move.

Embrace you
It’s a place to belong when you feel uprooted and disconnected. This is a one-semester class designed to prepare, encourage, and equip you to let go of the past, rebuild hope, and embrace your new life after a move.

Enable you
It enables you to trust Christ with your life and your future as you establish new roots in our community.

Equip you
It gives you the tools and the courage to establish roots in this community and optimism to trust Christ for a fulfilling future.

Offered in the fall and in the spring, The Moving On After Moving In class is a 10-week Bible study that addresses your emotional struggles and the opportunities for spiritual growth as you start over here. It is based upon the book, After the Boxes are Unpacked, and is taught by the author, Susan Miller. A seasoned mover, popular speaker, and President of Just Moved Ministry, Susan shares the biblical principles she learned as a result of her 14 moves.
The study takes you through the important stages necessary for a successful move: letting go of the past, starting over in a new community, and moving ahead with a new life. Not only does the study prepare, encourage, and equip you for the emotional and spiritual strain of such a major life change, it provides a wonderful way for you to make the friends and the community connections you long for.

“Each week I walked in [the Moving On After Moving In] class and listened to deep truths about Christ and how looking to Him can meet our unexpected needs after a move. I heard stories from other women who were vulnerable enough to share and it became such a safe, encouraging place. I cannot describe how incredibly encouraging this was in my life. I realized that it was okay to grieve my old community, the intimacy of my old friendships and the end of dreams I had that involved living in Houston.
I’m most thankful for what attending this class did for my relationship with Christ and my husband. Neither of them was in their rightful place in my priorities. A fresh start has deepened my awareness of how intimately involved God is with the details of our lives.”
-Dawn (attended the Moving On After Moving In class at SBC)
