Refugee Ministry
Soe Reh family from Burma
Scottsdale Bible sponsors refugee families from the war-torn country of Burma (Myanmar). The Myanmar Military Government is waging a war of annihilation upon its ethnic citizens (ethnic cleansing). These families are forced to flee their villages leaving behind all their possessions. Many flee deeper into the jungle with no food, water or protection from the elements. Others choose to travel hundreds of miles on foot to seek refuge in the refugee camps along the Burmese and Thailand border. Either of these choices is life-threatening and many die before reaching the camps or while living in the jungle. If caught by the Military Government, they will be killed, imprisoned, or be forced into hard labor.
There’s Hope: While living in the refugee camps, families can apply to be resettled to a country who accepts refugees. This process takes approximately 15-18 years. Through various resettlement agencies, Phoenix receives hundreds families from Burma. Scottsdale Bible has partnered with Lutheran Social Services as co-sponsors in helping these precious families begin a new life in this strange, new and unfamiliar place called America. They desperately need caring, loving and compassionate people to show them God’s love; something they have never experienced.
