Major Teachers’ Committee Initiatives:
- Teachers Training Seminar. Each year a team of teachers goes to Tanzania to provide a week of intensive training workshops on Biblical Worldview, Teaching Techniques, and new technology. This week is designed to encourage our Tanzanian teachers and to help them plan lessons, provide interactive learning activities, and teach new technology.
- Library Resources. In 2008 the committee began collecting thousands of new educational books, CDs, DVD, science lab materials, and other materials to create a library at each of our schools. The committee sorted through thousands of donations from our Tanzania Book Drive, organized them, and created an index system for the new libraries. Then short term team members who visited Tanzania in 2008 took over 2000 pounds of books and materials to stock these new libraries. Finally two of our teachers went to Tanzania to organize all of the books and other educational materials for both libraries. These teachers presented the Tanzanian teachers in both Kondoa and Mairowa with a beautiful, well organized Library full of thousands of new books and other educational resources.
- Short Term Team Training. The teachers’ committee has developed a module teaching program for the short term team members so these team members can teach in the schools during their visit to Tanzania. These “Lessons in a Bag” can be taught by the short term team members and then left in Tanzania for the Tanzanian teachers to use to enhance their curriculum.
- Home Visits. The teachers’ committee believes home visits to the students are crucial to ensure that their parents see the value of education and feel our Christian love. Each team that goes to visit the schools not only visits their own sponsored child, but also visits one or two other children sponsored by members of Scottsdale Bible and brings home pictures and a report for their sponsor. Each visit is also a tremendous opportunity to share the love of Christ, and one of the mothers was recently led to Christ by one of the visiting team members who sponsors her child.
