Residents at the House of Refuge in Sunnyslope work over eight hours a day in over 100 degree heat, and commute on buses with little or no air-conditioning or walk to get to work. Please donate powdered Gatorade (no bottles), lemonade, or ice tea drink mix to bless our working men and women with cool, refreshing beverages during the hottest days of the summer. Bring them on Sunday April 18 to our patio table or to the church office the week prior Monday through Thursday 7:30 a.m.–8 p.m. For more information contact Outreach Ministry at 480.824.7245 or lwillis@sbcaz.org.
House of Refuge Sunnyslope, Inc is a Christ-centered, transitional living facility for working men and women. They come to us from church referrals, agency referrals, divorces, jail, and the streets. Our mission statement: “Through the Power and Love of Jesus Christ, we help transform men into the people that God intended them to be.” We hope and pray to assist our residents with re-establishing broken relationships with spouses, children, parents, friends, and of course, God. Love is the answer, but forgiveness is the key. We praise God for the prayer, volunteer, and financial support from Scottsdale Bible.
Residents must have two forms of identification, be able and willing to find full-time employment, and test negative for drug and alcohol use. Our residents are required to attend three Bible studies each week, or attend meetings at their own church. We do not accept residents who are convicted of, or have “plea-bargained” to a violent crime, a sex crime, or arson. Residents can stay up to two years. We can house up to 37 residents between our main shelter and three houses in our immediate neighborhood.
