1 John Series

The idea of “walking” is such a simple concept—and one that the Bible uses so wonderfully to talk about our relationship with God.  1 John 1:6 tells us to avoid walking in the darkness. Instead, we are to walk in the light. John later tells us to walk in the same manner as He [Jesus] walked (1 John 2:6). All Christ-followers have a relationship with God in which we are going somewhere with Him—journeying along in our faith as we seek and follow Him. But how do we walk in such a way that we truly get to where we are going? Or to use John’s terms: how do we “walk in light” and “walk as Jesus walked?” This is what John fleshes out in his amazing first letter.  Written originally to a broad group of Christians living in the cosmopolitan towns of Asia Minor (with lots of secularism and competing religious world views), John introduces some key themes that help us learn how to get the most out of our walk with God. With an emphasis on the practical, this 12-week series will explore how Christians living in a secular society can truly “walk in the light” as we pattern our lives after the One who became one of us and walked the same path that many of us walk today.
