What is Stephen Ministry?
It is a team of lay people, called Stephen Ministers, who will come alongside you during a life crisis. Stephen Ministers provide one-on-one, Christ-centered care to people in need. They will walk with you through grief, divorce, unemployment, hospitalization, loneliness, financial stress, terminal illness, a spiritual crisis or other life difficulties.
Stephen Ministers have been trained to support and encourage you, a friend, a neighbor, or a relative – anyone who needs comfort and care – for as long as needed. You can be assured that your identity, the caring relationship and the conversations you have with your Stephen Minister will remain confidential.
If you have questions or feel that you might benefit from having the support of a Stephen Minister, please fill out the application below or contact Terry Sparks at 480.824.7239.
Stephen Minister Training, Fall 2018
Through the Stephen Ministry, God will bring forth new life and renewed faith in both the care receiver and the Stephen Minister. Is God calling you in this way? If so, download and complete the application and drop it off at the Counseling Office or email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Once the application is received, a screening interview with David Walther, Stephen Ministry Leader, will be scheduled. Trainees will receive 50 hours of distinctively Christian care training. Stephen Ministers, supported and encouraged by the congregation and fellow Stephen Ministers, are able to walk beside a care receiver, pray for them and help them work through life’s difficulties. The next training class starts October 2018 and will continue until March 2019. Classes are held on Monday nights from 6:30-9pm. There is an $100 materials charge for the class.
