Ask A Question

Q: A recent article in USA Today claims that many pastors today are downloading messages from other websites and preaching them in their home churches as their own. In addition, a prominent Christian leader recently told me that 90% of the pastors of seeker churches are doing the same thing. What do you think about this practice and what can be done to prevent it?

A: That would be considered plagiarism and just so you know there have been a number of pastors throughout the USA who have been asked to resign as a result such practices. I believe that a part of this temptation results in the pressure of delivering topically based seeker-centered messages week after week rather than exegeting the Word of God. Paul tells us to study to show ourselves approved to God, rightly dividing the word of truth (2 Tim. 2:15). Exposition of the Word of God is to teach the intent of the author who was inspired by the Holy Spirit
