Q: I have a friend who believes that the Bible is just a bunch of "Stories" and they should not be taken literally. How can I share with this person in a "Logical" manner to maybe explain to him why that is not true. He is pretty intelligent from a "Worldly" standpoint, but I don't believe he's ever read the Bible.
A: Good question. Denying the validity of God's Word has been an attack from the beginning. If the real issue is one of apologetics, then you may consider looking at how archaeology and prophecy (e.g., the prophecies regarding Tyre in Ezek. 26) attest to the historicity and literal truthfulness of Scripture. There are excellent resources available including books by Josh McDowell (More Than a Carpenter, Evidence that Demands a Verdict), Lee Strobel (The Case for Christ), Norm Geisler (I Don't Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist, Christian Apologetics) and others that shed light on some of the common objections to Scripture, including the denial of its accuracy. If your friend has never seriously studied the Bible (or about it), encourage him to at least consider the claim the Bible itself makes that it is the inspired word of God (2 Tim. 3:16). If you offer to go through it with him, God may very well use that to save him and equip you.
