Ask A Question

Q: Do you have any advice about Ancient civilizations and how they corrolate with the Bible. I have always been interested in Ancient civilizations, but never really tried to pursue any knowledge that can come with that.

A:
The study of other ancient civilizations is an exciting way to better understand the Bible. Perhaps the best way to begin is to read some of the texts that have survived. For a window into ancient Babylonian culture, read the Epic of Gilgamesh. For ancient Indian culture, the Upanishads. For ancient Greek culture, Homer and Hesiod. For ancient Egyptian culture, I would recommend the book Ancient Near Eastern Texts by James Pritchard. This book is in the reference section at the Phoenix Seminary Library. You can purchase the other books in paperback at your local bookstore. Have fun .
