Q:
What does the bible mean when it speaks of adultery? How does it relate
to swinging and spouse-swapping (assuming that couples are consenting).
A: Technically, by definition, adultery is the act of sexual unfaithfulness
by a married man or woman. Biblically, Christ taught that sexual unfaithfulness
even included lust. Sex, created by God, is exclusively between a married
man and woman period (see Mt 5:27-30 and Luke 19:2-6). Except in the case
of rape, consent is virtually irrelevant, in that even if both partners
agree to have sexual relations with their partners consent does not negate
God's view of it as immoral and damaging behavior. Take a good look at
1 Thessalonians 4:1-8.
